Hi all, first, thanks to iboats for this source of discussion. Im a newbie to boats but not to mechanical things. This boat is a 93 cobalt 196 with a 4.3 Volvo penta that I cant fully identify. It says 431 on the engine cover but the engine was replaced under warranty around 97 (the year my father bought it and was confirmed by the then president of cobalt). the engine is black but is painted over red and I cant seem to find a riveted tag on it anywhere. Anyway, yesterday we had it out and while idling in a no wake it died, as if turned off. This boat is in new condition and has always run like a top and had no symptoms leading up to this. I found that it has no spark. I first checked it from the coil wire to the block, then tried a new coil wire with the same result. I swapped coils with one I had in the garage and the same. I have battery voltage at both terminals of the coil in run and crank positions. Im leaning toward a bad ignition trigger/module but this is boat stuff and im a little hesitant to pull the trigger. Do these go bad? I haven't found many options for this style of ignition, its the "c" shaped module with the pickup in the opening of the "c" and two wire lead with round eyelet connectors. thanks for any help
