Re: 1993 Caravelle 17.5' Electrical Problem
I cleaned the grounds on the engine block which were very dirty. I also took apart the tilt/trim connector at the engine and it was corroded so I cleaned it up. That took care of the tilt/trim gauge, but the fuel gauge still drops to zero right at about 3,700 rpm like clock work. It's an aftermarket gauge that I put in from Overton's. It probably has something to do with the sensor because it's a little jumpy even without the engine running.
I did discover one thing about my RPM. It seemed that the RPMs were going much higher than last season. I was briefly peakinig at 5,200 when I hit 38 or so, then backing it down to 4,500. Although it didn't sound like the engine was revving that high. I rotated the 4-6-8 switch on the back of the tack a couple times then back to 4 and it works great now. I guess the POT gets dirty when it sits for a while, but now WOT is 4,600. I did make sure it was pointed directly at the 4 like before, but this probably required calibration.
