hey guys, I'm new here. I've had this boat for a few years. Went to launch it today, It was in for 10 min's and since it was the first time this year dropping it in I like to open up the engine area just to make sure things look normal. Anyways she had taken on about 2 gal's of water and you could here it coming in. So I reached down and felt the flow of water coming in thru the plug area. My plug was in and tight, it also had teflon tape on it. Its a brass screw in plug. Took the boat back out and resealed it again...drop it again and water was still coming in just not as fast. I'm hinking maybe I should buy a new plug...but should I also replace the fitting that the plug goes into? and if so what sealant should I use with it?
thank you

I would like to know too. I went to tighten my plug and found the housing loose. I went to tighten it up and 2 out of 3 screws were just spinning. I removed the housing, cleaned everything off, rotated the housing 3/4 of an inch and drilled new holes. I sealed everything up with marine silicone. It said for use above and below water line so I figure it would be ok. Check the 3 screws holding the housing on, maybe they worked themselves loose.

Sounds all good but DO NOT use silicone. Use 5200 EPOXY or equivalent for a permanent fix. Silicone does not harden and will leak again after a period of time allowing water in the boat and or in contact with your transom wood causing rot.

Earlier today I ended up dumping almost 10 gal's of water into the bilge pump area and found it was leaking around the flange. So I removed the flange and cleaned up the transom area with mineral spirts. The flange looked good so I cleaned it completely up using a wire brush and more mineral spirits then allowed to dry for an hour (had to have a couple of beers you know!). I purchased the 3M 5200 sealant on both the transom side and flange and put back together. I'm know gonna wait 48hours so it fully cures. Then we will see what happens.

Well, after 2 days of drying I put the boat back in and leaks like heck.......leak is coming from the gimbal area near the exhaust. So I packed it up and took it to the marina to have them fix it. Not sure what it is but i'm sure they're gonna rape me.
