Hi Folks

Does anyone have a guestimation as to the gas usage of this motor? It’s on a 20 foot OMC centre console with an 85 gal tank. I usually run it at 4000rpm on the plane to conserve gas. Looking for a figure at 4000 rpm and also what it would burn trolling at 7 knots or so? Runs great at the moment, no problems in the last yr fishing around Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel, but mixed rev usage hence question above. Just want to get an idea of the range I can go to get to the big stuff.

Cheers

H.

You are probably going to burn a lot of fuel with that 60 degree 150. About 15 gallons per hour at 5500 rpm. Still a good engine.

Actually the 60 degree motors are very good on fuel especially in the cruising range. With most any 150 you should expect to burn about 15 gallons an hour.

A lot depends on your set up, naturally. If its set up properly it should be very reasonable on fuel in the mid range.

A while back my son and I went fishing with some friends. He and I were in my Dusky which has a carb'd 60 degree 150. My friend has a Carloina Skiff with a 60 degree 150 Ficht. While the boats are very different in design, both are set up pretty well and we both run 19" 4 blade props. Over the course of the entire day I burned almost 18 gallons and he burned a tad over 14 with the Ficht. When running we were both in the 3300 rpm range.

An easy way to find out is to run a seperate tank with a given amount of fuel at your particular cruise range. A flowmeter is nice but most boats dont have one.
