Hi Guys.
I'm afraid I know the answer but here goes.
Motor runs good as long as it's under a load. If I trim up around 4k rpm or above and get on pad she rattles bad. If I tuck the motor back under it quits.
Compression is 90-93 psi on 5 cylinders and 80 on the port side bottom.
I'm thinking it's the piston but some say it may be in the foot.
It will push my Javelin 18 1/2 footer to 55mph but sounds like it could come apart at any minute when I do that.
Thanks for your input...
John

Check the gearcase grease...if if blows out out fill screw or is full of metal the foot took a :poop:. If ok then skirt has broke on a piston..

I do not believe those gearcases with the 2 screws / tabs are as durable as earlier designs.-----Agreed , check the gear oil first.-----If oil is good then remove the cylinder head.

I have a 1993 Evinrude 175 hp Intruder that has what I've been told as a piston slap due to a piston skirt being broken. It has 90 psi on 5 cylinders but has 80psi on the lower right .
Model E175GLETR. Ser # G 03192153

Boat has lost some power and really really rattles bad when trimmed up around 4000rpm's and up. Will still push my 389T 18' Javelin to 55mph but takes longer to get on plan than it used to.

Anyone recommend someone that can be trusted to do a decent rebuild?
Thanks in advance for your help.
