I have purchased and installed a new CDI power pack and optical sensor, matched with new CDI spark plug wires and using a spark gap tester tool. After following the CDI instructions and steps, I noticed that the entire port bank has no spark, and the starboard bank has very clear spark that jumps greater than 7/16". My confusion is that from what I've read about this motor, the shift interrupt switch would kill spark to the starboard bank when engaged. I have also read that in the late 90's the shift interrupt switch switched which side it killed spark to. So my question is, given that the power pack is new, is it safe to assume that it would have switched the shift interrupt to kill spark to the port bank? Leading to assume the switch is stuck or shorted?

Possibly. May want to revisit your install of that pack as well if it's a two pack motor. The blk/yel to ground on the port paxk would also kill spark. I don't know offhand if it's a 2 pack motor.

It takes all of 30 seconds to test the shift switch.
Put a meter across the two wires coming off the switch to see if you have continuity when actuated

I plan to check it tomorrow after work. Was more or less fishing to see if it could ve something less obvious. It seems like my boat is a bad omen anymore. Chase down problems for it to work for a bit then develop new problems. And the motor is a single blue pack. And all wires are hooked up as they came off.

I will update after I test the switch

Shift switch not the issue, was functioning properly.

This issue is very confusing. I am using the CDI spark gap tester and i have very obvious spark on starboard bank jumping 7/16 gap at cranking rpm, but no spark at all on the port bank. However once i hook back up to the plugs and fire it up and it is idling, it appears to fire on all 6, and depressing the shift switch noticeably kills half the motor.

I have checked all connections, grounds, components, etc. The only thing i can find that is remotely low is the cranking voltage from the stator is around 75 +/- 5 volts where the CDI spec sheet shows it should be 150v. What would cause this low voltage, the stator looks brand new, nothing burnt or broken. It isnt grounded anywhere, etc.

When idling it surges every few full rotations even though timing appears to be correct between 4 and 6 degrees ATDC.

thanks for the help
