Hey guys, am I glad I was told about this site. I've been reading a lot of these threads in hopes of finding some answers to my problem. I was hoping I wouldn't have to start a new thread, but looks like I have to.

The problem is, it won't idle for very long before it ends up stalling. I talked to a local boat shop and they asked if it ran fine other than in idle. I told them yes and they said turn up the idle. I tried that with no luck. I have it set to 750 RPM's while in gear (like the manual says).

I called them back and they said it's got to be timing with the carbs. I got the book out and read on how to sync the carbs. I thought this would be the problem forsure because it had a side not that said

Note: Throttle cam adjustment is essential to running at low speeds. If timing is off (either too early or too late) the engine will not perform properly at low speeds.

So I make the adjustments and I dropped it into the lake last night. Right off the bat it is doing 10x's better. It's idleing fine and went into gear a couple times without stalling. Then it started to act up....AGAIN! Same symptoms, but it doesn't die out as easly.

- Could this be water in the fuel? I live in S. California (and it has been warm lately) and I'm thinking that when I don't fill the gas tank back up after a trip it may be sweating causing water to mix into the fuel.

- Should I put on a water/fuel seperator in the fuel line?

- I also bought 2 carb re-build kits that I plan on putting on real soon.

By me doing the things above, do you think this will get rid of my problem? If you guys can give me any suggestions on what to look for or what to do, I would really appreciate it! - Mike

ive got the same motor...but a '94
mine will also stall while idling...(BUT).....if i take the engine cover off...presto...she runs fine.....when im on the lake with her opened up, she also runs great...it seems there is so much smoke in the engine compartment (at idle), with the cover on..that it just chocks..and dies from lack of fresh air....try taking yours off...see what happens...anyways..i still can not find a remedy...not even sure why it smokes so much....i always make sure my Fuel/ Oil mixture is dead on 50:1...so i dont know?...

Exhaust plate or adaptor gaskets are known to go on these motors. The exhaust gases will fill the cowl and choke out the motor. Only fix is to remove the powerhead and replace the gasket underneath it.

I'll try taking the cover off and see what happens. The weird thing is that my motor doesn't smoke at all. Well a litle but not too much compared to most 2 strokes.

I took off the carbs last night and will finish them tonight and hopefully get to test. My question with this is:

There is a gold tube (the book calls it the idle tube) that runs through the carbs and goes up into the jet area. I took this out (didn't realize that I didn't have to until it was too late) and I'm not sure how to position back in the carb. Does fuel run through this tube and into the jet? It is the only way that I can see that the fuel gets up there into the area. I'm just not to sure on how far down the tube should go.
