This will be my third season with this boat. (1993 Trophy 2002) The first year it ran like a slug. Marina where purchased had it in the shop five times that year. Finally fixed the problem at the end of the year. It would not reach 100% power, only approx. 90%. They finally said that it was an electronic component related to the ignition. Last year it ran great until the end of the season and now it is back to it's old, tired self again. It also wants to stall at idle and has a slight studder while running at higher RPMs. Being completely, mechanically ignorant I can't give better details. Would someone be able to tell me how to drain the old gas out? The tank is built-in. This engine has three carbs. and five cyllindards. I use NGK plugs. Last season, about mid summer it seemed to start to cut out again, dropping down to 90% power but then jumped right back up and ran good until the end of the summer. The marina where I bought the boat said that they had completely rebuilt the engine as the previous owner trolled with it and gummed it up beyond repair. Yet they seem to be totally baffled each time it's in the shop for this problem. I've read through the topics involving Force engines and have some ideas about bad gas, plugged fuel filter, and the "stator" amoung other things. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

If I remember correclty, there are 4 CD modules in mine, one for each cylinder. There could be 5 on yours. It sounds like maybe one of them could be faulty, if you are running at what seems to be 90% I am guessing it would be 80% and in which case a cylinder not firing becasue of the faulty CD module. If your problem is intermittent it would be very tough to know which one. In my case, the connector to the CD module was corroded and not providing contact all the time which gave me a similar feel to what you described, sometimes you get power, other times not as much power. I just took out the connector and soldered the wires together. A visual check might help. Carefull touching these wires with your base hands while the engine is running you will get a rude awakening.
If the problem is not intermittent then you can alaways check if all spark plugs are getting power, the one that isn't would be the bad CD module.

Good luck.

Kremlo your probably running on 4 cylinders. Check you have spark to each cylinder. Each CD feeds 2 cylinders. (one extra) on CD #3 that you can use if another one doesn't work. How do the 3 carbs feed the 5 cylinders? Is there a carb that feeds one cylinder only? Since the problem was at the end if the summer its not caused by bad gas. I'm going back to electrics. An intermittant short, loose wire, but knowing Force, its a bad half of a CD.

1. Check compression

2. Check with a timing light while running to see if your lossing spark on a cylinder.

NOTE: Force outboards have a problem with the "trigger" wires. Where the trigger wires come out from under the flywheel the wire core breaks inside the insulation causing a misfire or a cylinder to shutdown. The trigger wires also pull out on the connections at the terminal blocks only being held by the shrink tube.

Thank You Andre, Sony and Outboardjake for taking the time to share your knowledge. This is great information and I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can get to work. This message board thing ROCKS!
