I have a 1993 Force 90hp, the problem was the starter would barely spin as if the battery was bad and the battery cables (+) was very hot. I took the starter out and it was bad. I had it rebuilt and it is good now, but still does not spin the engine fast, acts as if the battery is bad and the (+) cable still gets hot. Could it be the starter solidnoid? It seems it is the only thing between it and the battery that could be limiting the amount power to the starter. I removed the spark plugs and it actually spun the engine but very slow. Itried two different batteries the trolling battery and the ignition batery, both were fully charged. I have not load tested the batteries but plan on doing it tomorrow, just to be sure it is not a bad cell. I cannot think if anything else it could be, any advice would be great.
Thanks

You can bypass the solinoid with a jumper cable however my guess is that the rebuild on the starter was not done correctly. When you pulled the plugs out that would eliminate any compression and the starter should fly on that motor with no plugs. Take a battery jumper cable and run it from the starter to the postive lead on the starter battery. Make sure the jumper is on good and not touching the starter body. Just remember that if you touch ground with the jumper a lot of sparks are going to fly and you will be arc welding.

You might be able to find an auto parts store that will test the starter for you

Thanks for the advice. Do you think the solidnoid could be bad? I will have them test the starter, just to double check.

I hooked the starter up directly to the battery and it still won't spin the engine. It does not have enough torque, taken it back to the shop that rebuilt it.
Thanks

Typically when a starter solinoid goes it wont work at all. Good luck with the rebuild shop.

Either a bad starter rebuild or bearings that are starting to seize in your powerhead. How easily does the flywheel turn by hand?

My 120/92 had the same problem, got the starter rebuilt but that didn't last long, won't crank fast, thus wouldn't start good either, bought a new starter off ebay for 82 bucks plus shipping/2 day cost another 13 dollars, best investment you could do, now starts after first 2 or 3 seconds!!!!!!
