New to the site hoping for a resolution to an issue I have been battling. My 5.8 L OMC will start and run fine at the dock after any type of cruise long enough for it to reach operating temperature then shutting it off and restarting after half an hour or more it does not want to restart due to no spark. Any insight? I am an auto mechanic by trade so I have done all the basics like plugs, wires, cap, rotor. It is an electronic ignition no points. Thanks in advance.

Replaced the coil as well, I haven't found a definitive voltage that should be at the coil but have read a few things about a resistor?

Also does anyone know where and what the external resistor is and should be? I don't see anything wired in to my harness.

could be a resistor wire in the harness vs an external resistor. what does the manual say. (factory manual, not a haynes, seloc or clymer)

if it is ignition, could be the ICM is bad. its rarely ever the coil. however more likely its a bad connection in the ignition feed (purple wire)

Thanks, I did some diagnosing earlier and when it wouldn't start, had no spark, unplugged Shift Assist Module and started right away. Any experience with that?

that would be a mis-adjusted lower shift cable. instructions in the OMC forum.
