Question for everyone. Your experience might help me. I have a 1993 Four Winns 180 freedom with an OMC 4.3L V6. Someone gave me this boat for free and has been sitting for 2 years. It had water in the gas reservoir and we disconnected the line from the carb and turned it over a few times to pump out the water and put the line before the pump in a fresh tank of gas. Everytime we try to crank it, it revs up while we are still holding the key, but once we let the key go, it turns off. It will not idle. We took the electrical lines off the old reservoir (which has holes in it, working on repairing it). The carburetor seems to be getting gas from the external tank, and tries to start up for a second and immediately dies. Does the electrical circuit need to be hooked to the floater in order for it to start and Idle? It is not idling for us. We already drained/cleaned the carburetor. It has fresh gas. We replaced all the spark plugs last night. We took the carburetor out and cleaned it. When looking into the carburetor, it seems to be getting gas. We also replaced the fuel/water separator filter. I cannot seem to find the killswitch on this boat and it's hard finding any information on it, it being so old. We do not see any spot for a killswitch. I tried to use a multi-meter and find the resistance of the ignition coil, but I am not getting anything back? There is some wires tied to the ignition coil, should i take those off to get a better reading? i'm reading from stud to stud. Do you think it's even possible that the coil could be bad if it seems like it's starting up but not idling? Thanks guys.
