1993 Is it Volvo-Penta, OMC, or both?

Never had a VP before and am getting conflicting info on a boat I am looking at. It is a 1993 Volvo-Penta 4.3. That is all the information he can give me before I make the long haul to see it. I assume it is a GM block, but what about the outdrive? Is it the dreaded OMC, the praised VP...or a mixture of both? Thanks.

That was built during the time of the merger between OMC and VP. It's either a VP290 or SX drive, either way you will be fine. Yup thats a GM engine. 'nutcase

What is the FULL model and SN of your engine and drive?
Since the Volvo/Omc joint venture didn't start till 94, I doubt you have an SX drive, but that is why we need some numbers. While not common, your 93 boat could have a newer 94 engine package if it was built late in 93.

The only information he was able to obtain was the SN from the outdrive and engine model. It is 854930FA393-02 and engine model 430 (155hp) Does this help?

The 430 is a Volvo model number for the 4.3.
The drive numbers didn't help any, but that is easy enough to sort out.
If you go to the link below, and type in 430 in the engine type box, you can find out some basic information on the engine and drive. I know roughly which drive it is, and they are great drives. Had one (siimilar design, just older) on my 27' boat. You aren't going to find a better outdrive, and the engine is a standard GM V6 4.3L. Nothing fancy, and very common. Basically, the 430 A and B are the same, so go to the 430A link in the link below to find some brochures.
If you do buy it, let us know. There are service manuals here for that engine and your drive.
PS: Don't worrry about the year. Many 93 boats have 92 engines. the boat and engine year changes are at different times.
