I have a 93 Johnson 60hp model #te60tletd, 3 carbs and 3 cylinders... on a 1990 bass tracker pro 17. Was out earlier today fishing ran the engine probably 15 minutes, realized I forgot something at my truck, went back to the dock, shut the boat off and wouldent start after that.... I tried priming it, I tried everything... so I loaded it onto the trailer and brought it home. Hooked the hose up to it and cranked but no start, gave it full throttle in neutral and it almost started. Did that a few more times and it fired right up and has fired up and ran awsome since then. (Haven’t taken it out yet)... any ideas what to look for I really don’t wana get stuck out In The water!

recent parts repaced
impeller
lower gear case oil
thermostat

thanks for any help!!!

Load test the battery.-----Clean all battery cable connections.----Perhaps clean / inspect starter.

Battery is brand new 2 weeks ago! Cranks very fast! Would corroded cables still be a possibility? I figure if it’s cranking fast then cables are okay?

intermittent… so next time it dies confirm a good CLICK from the selenoid keep it in START mode then have a helper wiggle cable wires etc...

if wiggling cables does not wake it up tap the selenoid… could be bad internal contacts

if that does not work try tapping the starter may be dead spot

In any event if still dead then voltage testing is in order ...but careful volts are not amps…. amps need good contact surfaces to flow

From what you are saying, tried to start with full throttle. sounds like you flooded it. Did you by chance push the key in when you tried to start it? If so you flooded it.

I don’t think the issue is anything to do with starter, it’s cranking plenty fast. And I usually don’t even press the key in for the solenoid on warm starts.... When I was trying to start the engine at first I was not full throttle. I went full throttle to try and start it after I couldn’t get it to start.

Did not pull the lanyard. I checked that. I’m lost... rebuilding carbs tonight and going to water test it
