Hello All,

My motor is having a problem with idle and low RPM running. The motor runs fine at full throttle and starts fine as well, but at half throttle to idle it will sputter and hick-up and sometimes die. Does anyone have an idea what my problem could be and how to fix it? Could it be a dirty carb. and can I add some fuel additive such as a carb. cleaner that will clean up this problem?

Need some help, thanks

It could be a carb issue. If the motor has been sitting for a while (winter storage etc) it wouldn't be a bad idea to clean them. Remember, if a plugged carb isn't allowing sufficient fuel, it's not letting oil to that / those piston(s). If the fuel is old (more than 30 days) and wasn't treated, get rid of it. Start with fresh 87 octane.

It may be an ignition issue too but once you get the carbs done you'll know the cylinders are getting lubbed properly.

What plugs are you using? Those motors are pretty finiky about having the right ones.

Mine does the same thing. =Mine stalls at idle.. When giving gas from idle it also dies. When running WOT it seems like it is ok.. Compression is even from where it should be. Plugs new.

Mine had that problem today. Was running WOT for about an hour with no problems, then all of a sudden it died. And would not restart. I checked the bulb on the fuel line and found it could not get it to move fuel. I pulled the cowling off and disconnected the fuel line from the fuel filter and it pumped gas just fine, I pulled the filter and it looked good. I put it back together and the bubl got hard like it was supposed to. Then it didnt want to start, and when it did start it ran and then died, until eventually it stayed running long enough to get up to WOT, but it would only get up to 4900-5000 RPM instead of the usual 5100-5200. And when I putting it on the trailer, anytime i shifted from reverse into nuetral or fwd into neutral it weould die. I checked when I got home and I have spark on all 6 cylinder (at least to the plug) I want to change the plugs, I had some Autolite that crossed to the Champions in it, but they didnt work, so I have the old champions back in. Also when I bought it the guy had 1/4 tank of gas in it already. And as far as I know this is the first time it has been run this season. I had filled the tank up all the way before i took it out the other day. So would dumping the fuel in the tank, and replacing the plugs fix my problems or is there a bigger issue here?
