Does anyone know how to adjust the shift cables on a 1993 King Cobra stern drive? I was taking off and the boat seemed to jump into neutral and will not go into forward or reverse now.

Howdy,

How to do it will depend on whether you have a DOG-CLUTCH or CONE-Clutch model.

You'll need to use your actual model number to determine what you have.

(You may also have a 92 model engine and drive in your 93 model boat....boat builders have done this for years!)

When you determine exactly what you have, you'll need to obtain an OMC service manual for your model (Not Seloc/CLymer.....OEM OMC)

THEN, follow the instructions in the manual for adjustment......There's fewer and fewer marine mechanics that are qualified (or will even want) to work on these drives....

You'll want to ENSURE that they know what they are doing if you pay someone to do it.

If they do it wrong, You could be replacing/rebuilding the drive.

Here's a link that will show actual year/model numbers http://epc.brp.com You do not have to put in your email address.......

by the way, Those sort of problems are frequently due to a defective lower shift cable ..........not adjustment........if it's been that way for a LONG time, damage to the clutch dogs or cone-clutch can occur.

Good luck!
