Alright guys, I really wanted to be useful in my first post and answer a question, but no no, not for me. I must ask.

I have used the search function extensively and looked for what might be a logical answer before asking. I was able to find however that it is irritating to not post make model etc...
So without any further holdup -

Mariah Talari Z - Make
5.7 Motor
280 DP outdrive to the best of my knowledge

My issue:

My trim/tilt system went on the fritz after an electrical issue the other day on the season's first run. I shorted a terminal off my battery, i guess I tightened too much or my weak started pulled to much current, all I know is that now when I try to tilt/trim it clicks like it is trying to engage however, no movement. I have removed the pump and have direct connected to a battery to tilt/trim up/down successfully. I get solenoid clicks, where the heck should I look I hope I provided enough info. I can't find any other fuse other than the one by the distributor which is a 40A and not the 55A my book said. I have a wiring diagram but it doesn't tell me where the actual location of the components are.
Thanks
Josh

There are relays behind the instrument clusters that you may want to check, there is also a control unit behind the instruments(at least on mine there are). If you have the drive manual, it has wiring schemetics for the tilt/trim. If you don't have the manual, search Don S and look for his posts, he puts a link to pdf downloads for manuals in some of his posts.

ok well i am at another stopping point... I have checked it out used the manual and all, but still nothing just clicks when trying to engage. I am wondering what could be the source of the problem, I tried to tinker with it some more the other day and the darn thing worked for a bit, only to quit again. Again, I could hook it direct and it would work like a champ. Any thoughts?

Where does the click come from? Is it from the trim motor or from under the instrument panel?

Hopefully someone more experienced than I will have the answer.
