1993 Mercury XR6 lower unit troubles

I have a 1993 Mercury XR6 150 that decided to eat the pinion gear. I have been told and have read that the lower units on this year are junk. They have a 4.25 inch gearcase instead of the larger 4.75 inch case. I wanted to know if anyone could save me some research and tell me what large case lower unit would bolt straight on.

yes, the larger diameter 'standard' size gearcase bolts right on, no grief at all...
