1993 omc king cobra 454 shifting conundrum.

So I have a 1993 king cobra 454 with the rare cone clutch with the spitfire ignition taken off. I had the engine rebuilt and just put it in the water to find out the forward shift made it go in reverse and vice versa. No problems shifting in and out of gear. I then switched the cables on the two cable system and the exact same thing happened....does anybody have any directions on how exactly to set up the shifting and throttle cables? I'm almost thinking someone switched props on me or something.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... Which direction does the prop shaft turn in forward,..?? Clockwise,..??

Thanks for the welcome haha. And yeah prop shaft turns clockwise. I'm thinking it must be something goofed up with the OMC shifter. I have another outdrive out of the boat and looked how the shifting mechanism works and it seems like there is no real way to switch anything up unless something internal is completely backwards. I'm going to check which way the shifter moves the cables when the weather gets a little bit nicer later today.
