Hello,

Very new to boating and picked up first used boat. Had some issues with trim UP, solenoids are good as trailer UP and trim DWN work. Pulled off trim limit switch and cleaned contacts and it worked. Took it out for first time and noticed trim UP stopped working. Pulled off limit switch and checked, contacts were good, put back on and it worked!!?? two things:

1. noticed the one screw that holds on the plate ( not the adjustment screw) was not tight like it was stripped. replaced with larger screw and now its tight and trim UP works ( for now).
2. Testing the trim UP limit, it does not stop at the suggested 21 3/4 ", it goes all the way up like the trailer button. To my knowledge it doesnt appear to have been jumpered. I read somewhere else that a person swapped the trimUP and trailer UP wires in the throttle and that caused the trimUP to stop at the limit. Guess I am looking to confirm if its the switch or possible wiring. I did notice some copper showing on the trim limit wires going into the bell.

Thanks for any advice.

Exposed copper will short in water. That could cause a few things. First, it will accelerate corrosion, significantly... it could also allow the trim switch to raise the drive all the way up.... those need to be replaced. And since the switches and the wires are a single molded piece, you can't just replace one or the other. It's both or neither.

I disconnected and left off my trim limit sender and wiring for same. I find it silly waste of electrical stuff that goes bad. It is way too easy to just be thoughtful about where your trim is set when controlling your boat.

Thanks everyone, I agree with you and I "sealed" up the bare wires as best I can, will look to replace them at end of season when I can remove the drive.
