I was doing some digging on setting idle and mixture screw on my engine. Saw some stuff about a vacuum gauge and tach. And somthing about base mode? Im trying to figure out if it can be set without these things? Can it be set by listening and feeling the engine? I have a bit of mechanical experience and im just wondering if it can be gotten close without a bunch of extra stuff. Thanks in advance for any help on this topic!

setting mixture screw, start motor , get to operating temp, adjust mixture screw(s) for highest idle speed. Adjust idle speed screw to correct rpm,

Just remember 1.5 turns from lightly seating the mixture screw. Usually 1/4 either direction should give a good idle. If it takes a lot more than that there is a problem. 3.0 engines are not known for a smooth idle as compared to the 2.5 .
