Debating whether to disconnect the oil injection on 1994 40hp Mercury outboard. No current problems with the engine just concerned about potential pump failure. What's the history of failure on these engines? Should I disconnect the oil injection? If so, other than capping off the line to the reserve, what else is involved? Disconnect sensor? How?

Re: 1994 40hp Mercury - disconnect oil inject?

I have a 98 40hp mercury with oil inj. I have been told to disco. and others say don't.
From the people in the know the best advise I heard was that if used enough no problem. If sits for a while and any doubt(especially the first time of the year) to use a couple of gallons of gas mixed 50/1, mark oil level to make sure oil
is being used then go to reg. gas with no oil? I do this the first time I use and have had no problems. Hope this helps.
