2 months ago I bought a new to me Sea ray w/ a 5.7 260. I had a OMC 4.3 w/Cobra for 16 years(no problems). I'm so happy to have a small block chevy w/ Merc now you can't imagine. I have a "high five" (five bladed by merc) prop w/ 21 pitch. Seems to me I'm 200-300 rpms short of recommended rpm's. Prop gives good hole shot and almost 50mph top end. My question is if I take the prop down to "lets say" 19 would I possibly maintain or gain top end w/ a smaller wheel by getting to the proper rpm's.(opposite of what you might think) 20 ft Sea Ray 5.7 260 Alpha 1 Gen2 Thank You

Re: 1994 5.7 merc

if that is 2-3 hundred under max recomended wot rpm...don't fix what isn't broken. if 2-3 hundred under minimum wot rpm 19" probably won't be enough to bring it into the recomended rpm range.
