Need some help for an "Off Mainland Friend". 1994 60hp 3 cylinder, VRO (disconnected). She complained that it would not start this year. Was running when stored last fall.

It has had some fuel issues, Flooding due to Needle and Seats, while docked, and tank pressurizes. Unhook the fuel line so it doesn't flood while sitting in Hot Summer Days.

So she just put it in the water, hooked up a New Battery, and No Start, cranks great but nothing. Another fella pulled the plugs and checked No Spark. Snipped the Blk/Yel. to eliminate the Cut Off.

I got there later, crank, no start. Pulled the hood and Blk. (looked Blk/Whi) wire is melted from plug to plug, even through the tape. Pulled it out to see if it shorted to any other wire, but doesn't look like it has any where.

Not knowing what the Blk/Whi. wire does, I came home to find there are no Blk/Whi. wires only Blk. which is Ground. The white must be remnants of a nearby wire.

So, questions are "Why would the Ground Melt?" Battery wasn't hooked up backwards (supposedly). I can't see a Staor issue melting the Ground Wire.

I chased the Blk. wire from the Grey plug to the Red plug, and it doesn't look like any shorting, should I chase further? I can see a Short causing a No Spark Issue. I would think the Grey Plug with the Small Pin Connector, would be the weak point, and it is not melted and still looks factory.

Anyone see this before?

Go to CDI Electronics.Com for ignition trouble shooting.

one of the motors covered in a bulletin, calling for moving the tell-tale elbow to the top of the motor, and changes to the thermostat. Result was overheating due to an airlock, so you may benefit from resurfacing the head cover and a new gasket.

Thanks.

I went to CDIelectronics.com, I will follow their pin point test. But it says nothing about a Melted Wire.

I assumed it was a Black Wire, with a White stripe, however, I could not find a diagram online showing one this way. Which lead me to believe, the White Stripe on the burnt casing was transfer.

That meaning a Ground Wire (all Black). Then if it is a Ground, Melting means that a Ground to block is messed up forcing Starting/Trim all to ground through the 16ga wire
