Looking to buy the above motor. Anything to be concerned about/look for etc. The motor is not on a boat right now, but in storage so I do want to see it running first. It is coming complete except guages and has the oil resevoir.

Guy is asking $3,500 Cdn for it. Looks like a decent price compared to the local buy & sell.

Check compression, Pump up the fuel bulb and see if gas leaks from the carbs, Drain some lower unit oil and check it for metal or sludge, Look for discoloration on the powerhead, Make sure mice haven't chewed up the wiring, Check that it still has a serial number on it and that you're getting the motor you think you are!!!

That's all I got as I am in no way an outboard mechanic!

How much is $3500 Canadian in American dollars? That motor is 11 years old

About $4,400.

Next best is a 115 of a late 70's vintage for $1,800 but it sounds like it doesn't have all the controls tilt trim etc. Going to look at it tomorrow.

Are you sure $3500 Canadian is $4400 Us dollars? I thought it was more like $2450 US dollars?

D'oh.

Ayup. It's around 1.25 right now, but I went the wrong way.

So, about $2,800.

Hmm...US$2800 for an 11-year-old outboard that has been in storage...

Frankly, I wouldn't buy it unless I could test it on a boat. Running on muffs just isn't enough, since you won't really be able to assess the lower end or how it performs under load.

I know that's a problem, but it's also a lot of money.

You might actually do better by buying a boat, motor and trailer, just to get the motor. Swap your Force onto the boat you buy and put the new motor on your boat, then sell the other boat. That way, you should be able to preview the new motor actually on the water and on a boat. You might even save a few hundred dollars.
