I recently aquired a 94 javelin bass boat with a 175 evinrude intruder on it. Today was the first time to try it out and when i got it in the water it was initally hard to get it to start and run (it would start, idle for 10 secs or so and die) but eventually it started doing ok. I thought maybe it just needed to warm up due to being carbed. We left the dock and it ran fine all the way across the lake (only part throttle due to many stobs in the water). We reached our fishing spot and fished for about an hr. We decided to move to another spot and it then did the same thing when trying to get it started. Again after a while it did ok and went on to fish for another hr or so. And as before when we started heading to the dock it did the same thing again. After this we decided to load the boat and while trying to move from the dock to the trailer it was like pulling teeth to keep it running. It would stay running as long as the accelerator was pressed some. But when trying to put it in gear it would die almost immediately. Eventually i got it home and once home i pulled the cowl to check the plugs and noticed in the front of the motor where the carbs are there was oily gas covering most everything around the carbs. I pulled the plugs and they were a dark brownish color and wet. I did trim the motor up and down many times while on the water to avoid damage to the prop so i dont know if that residue is from that or something else. I did trim it all the way down at home and prime the bubble and no leaks visable whatsoever. One thing i will mention is that the oil injection has been disconnected and blocked due to over oiling and have been just mixing gas and oil. I'm an ase master auto tech so i do know about engines but when it comes to outboard motors im pretty much lost. Just wondering if anyone else had been through this and might have ideas?

The warm up proceedure is normal, I keep bumping my choke for the first minute as needed. If it runs ok once warmed up all is normal.

The fuel on the carbs might just be from tilting, the floats will no longer be level and often fuel runs out the carb throats...into the airbox and drains into the crankcase via the tube at the bottom.

Over-oiling can be caused by an air leak in the fuel line before the pump, if the pump senses air it will increase the oil pump cycle to compensate.
If the oil line was capped off but the air leak wasn't tracked down it might still be getting air ( lean). Watch this video.

I replaced the plugs and took it back out today and it still does the same thing, i went over every hose possible and no fuel or vacuum leaks. Once i get it going it runs great but starting and dying goes on for 5 mins before it finally will take off. It seems like the more i use it the harder it is to start. First time off the trailer today i let it idle and warm up and it did ok. After that starting became worse and worse. Any ideas?
