I just purchased the boat last week, 1st one by the way, into the mechanic shop already. I filled oil tank but didn't prime oil bulb. Turns out that I scored #3 piston. Compression test shows 130, 120, 115 and 90(scored). Mechanic said it is defineately not the ideal situation, but that it should not be too much to worry about yet. I had seafoam in fuel, maybe it saved me maybe not. I would like to get some opinions and thoughts from the iboat community on what to do with the situation. Mechanic said it is a very good motor that hasn't been hacked on by "backyard mechanics". Fix now or run it? Thanks!

how do you know that the cylinder is scored?? was the head removed or are you just guessing?? did you check the compression before the incident??? could have been like that already..the is some great post in here about decarbing your motor with deep creep. this may help your compression. If it runs good I would run it. I have by passed the oil injection on all of my motors..but they are all 12 years old or older. I prefer to premix then you know the oil is in there..just my personal opinion and I am not a pro.
Good luck Sparkie

Is it just the piston that is scored, or is there cylinder damage? If it is just the piston it would be cheaper to fix it know. That being said I had a similar problem several years ago and did nothing about it figuring if it blew I could get a bigger motor. It is still running fine. I did keep an eye on compression for awhile and just gave up. You might notice a little bit of rough idle because of one low cylinder.

yes, the head was removed. He did the normal checks and noticed low compression so he tore into it. The compression was not tested prior to incident. Thanks for everyones help, I think I will just let it go for a while. Have Fun!
