Here is the scoop, I have a 1994 Evinrude 48 SPL on a 1994 Sunbird 150. in the last ten days I have had the lower end fluid changed, carbs rebuilt and the power pack replaced. I took it out yesterday, started it, pulled over to the dock to pick my friend up, left the dock and got about five hundred yards form the dock and it died. No spitting or sputtering just died. I tried cranking it and it would not fire up. When I got back to the landing I tilted the motor up to find that there appeared to be unburnt fuel oozing out of the prop.

I go the boat back form having the repairs done on thursday of last week and took it out and it ran wonderful. I was only out for about two hours but had no problems.

Any thoughts?

TIA

Do you have a safety halyard,is it connected,it could have gone bad.Or does your fuel hose have a connector that allows disconnect.if so is it connected well.Did you get it to start at all.Even a quick start ,then stall. If all it does is crank,no trying to start.I would suspect total loss of spark. That could be the safty,or a neutral safty switch problem. If you have the safty be sure it has the clip tight,or temporarly jump out the switch by connecting the 2 wires on back together+

Re: 1994 Evvinrude 48 SPL - just died

I fidgeted with the safety switch, pushing it all the way in and trying to start it and no difference. It was really weird becasue it ran so good on thursday and then yersterday it just died as we were motoring away. I dropped it off at the shop this morning and should know something this afternoon. I definantly thought it is something electrical and probably really easy. I had to drop it off to get the seals on the tilt/trim cylinder replaced, I noticed it was losing fluid yesterday and could actually see it bublin out form the wiper seal.

Thanks,

I was not able to check the spark. I was hoping someone might have a quick thought of where to look. I suspect that the safety kill switch may be the problem. I plan to call the shop tomorrow to check on it and I will let everyone know the findings.

TIA,
