The power trim has a leak in one of the rams and the repair shop where I took it said they can not locate a seal kit for it. Any suggestions?

Re: 1994 Force 120 HP Power Trim

I have a '93 120 and I tried to have a couple of places find a seal kit for the power trim. None of the places could locate one. I am led to believe there isn't a seal (repair) kit available.
I don't think there is a solution to the "wonderful" power trim Force made for these. Look at some older postings. Everyone has problems, and very little solutions. Just make sure you bleed the air out of the system, and just hope for the best. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck.

Besides the trim, how has your 1993 force performed?

Re: 1994 Force 120 HP Power Trim

It performs pretty well. I bought the boat sort of "site-unseen". I knew it had a Force engine and I had heard of prolems witht hem, but figured I could work on it. It was a project boat for me. Needed almost all new interior, the engine at the time didn't start, needed a throttle box, new fuel line, etc etc. I got the engine running, ut had problems with the performance in the beginning. Figured out I had a hole in the fuel pump diaghram, and the pump was pulling in to much gas. (actually 6 gallons in 1/2 mile!) I have had little quirks here and there, but for an engine that was obviously abused, I really haven't had that many problems. I just rebuilt my carbs (not a very difficult job if you have a manual, and advice from this forum) because of heavy discharge from both. It is running great now. Just having a thermostat problem, but I other than that, not much. Have you had yours long? Sounds like it is new to you. Any advice I can give, I'm happy to help.

Re: 1994 Force 120 HP Power Trim

I just purchased the boat a month ago. It is an Astro center console. The boat runs great just the trim problem. I wonder if it would be easier to purchase a used ram than trying to find a seal kit. You mentioned earlier about making sure the air is bled out of the system . What do you mean by this. I thought the air was automatically bled out. Thanks for your help.

What happens is when fluid leaks out of the system, it is automatically replaced with pockets of air. If your trim tilt is losing pressure and the engine is slowly sinking, you need to bleed (release) the air from the sytem. There is a little release valve (screw) on the side of the trim motor. (this is advice for replacing or adding fluid to the system)
As far as the hydrolic arm, I wouldn't buy a used one because from what I have heard it is a universal problem. Don't subsitute one for another. If you can't find a repair kit (which I don't think there is) try to make minor adjustments to the system to improve the functionality of the lift. I think that is the best you are going to do, unless you want to replace it with new parts.

Re: 1994 Force 120 HP Power Trim

You seem to know allot about these motors. I have a 120 hp '96 on a
Bayliner Trophy. Runs great, but the power trim will slowly leak down. There are 2 plastic flat head screws on the power trim pump. I found the top front one to be the one to fill and the lower one to drain. What kind of problem am I looking at. Should I replace the cylinder? It will leak down in about 5 minutes and when you are running it will trim down in a minute or two. There is no signs of any leaks.

Thank you in advance

Pwlankford@netzero.net

Tcull, where is it leaking? If the trim leaks down and no oil is leaking then the pump is the problem.
Boats.net has some T+T parts.
Mercury Force Outboard Parts 120 H.P. (1990-1994) 0E000001 THRU 0E093699 TILT CYLINDER & MOTOR & PUMP (DESIGN I) Diagram Look here.
Plankford your motor has a different system. You should start your own thread.Look at the same site for your parts. They have lots for your pump.J

Re: 1994 Force 120 HP Power Trim

the 93-95 and some 1992 use the same seals as 1980-1992 except for the tilt cover. I have not been able to identify the debris wiper. The outer seal for 93-95 is different too but it is a standard metric size. So ... other than the debris wiper the seal kit is exactly the same as a normal Force engine.

Plano Marine in Texas had the seal kit for my 1996 Force 120HP. Don't know if the '94 is the same or not, but I know they had one more kit for the '96 120HP. This is just a few months ago as well.

the 1996 should be a single ram. fixing one of those is actually spread out across three or four kits - ram, manifold, release, and pump. The 1994 should be a three ram setup. Just get a 1980-1992 kit and re-use existing debris wiper. If fluid seeping from top of tilt then swap shock and tilt cylinder heads. If both tilt and shock heads are fubar then swap out for 1980-1992 ram.
