So today after taking the boat out of lake at boat ramp I see this small diameter rubber hose disconnected and dangling from the top of the lower unit? What is that hose for? I attached 2 photos, one with it disconnected/dangling as I found it and the other with it stuffed in the upper hole where it used to go(but I didnt connect it really to anything in the upper hole). Please explain what this hose is for!

The photos were well intended but because it's taken close up, it doesn't give a point of reference on what part of the motor is this hose dangling from or originally came from. What size is the hose or diameter? Can you take a pic of the t-stat location to see if the previous owner made some mode for a water tell-tale?

Ok here are 2 more pics from more distance. You can see the hose comes from the top of the lower unit/gearcase and is supossed to go into another hole right above it and connect to something internally.

Looks like a pitot tube hose, some lower units have them built in going to the speedo.

That hose get threaded up to the top of the transom and hooks into
the hose going to the speedo.
I believe 94 was the first year Mercury/Force used their lower units and they had the speedo pickup built in.
