I've owned this '94 Force 120 OB for about 4 years. Twice previously the overheat alarm sounded while running it on "earmuffs" but it never happened on a lake. I assumed it was because of the limited water supply from the garden hose and earmuffs. Yesterday it sounded twice while underway on a large lake. It sounded for a few minutes then stopped as though the motor cooled off and didn't re-occur and the motor ran fine. Keep in mind, we were running high RPM then slowed down to low RPM when it occurred. Also, keep in mind the water pump discharge (2 holes next to each other) are discharging alot of water steady when running. Then later in the day, after motor was off for an hour or so, it sounded again after starting and idling for a minute or 2 then it went off /silent when we got underway and never came back on. What am dealing with here? Help.

Sounds like the impeller needs to be changed??
Check the thermostat??
When removing the cover, the screws can be real hard to remove.
Take your time.
If they can't be easily done with a screwdriver? then you might need a torch and a small hammer.
WD-40 or any penetrating oil PB Blaster works best.
Spray, heat, spray, insert screwdriver and tap with hammer.
Then repeat.
