purchased 1994 johnson 112. Prop shaft was bent. Had it replaced. The lower unit makes clicking sound when i spin prop by hand in neutral. I havent run it yet. It didnt make this sound before I had it worked on. Makes me wonder if somethings not right. Is this normal?

Also what is the correct spark plug. NGK book says BR7HS, mech told me BR9HS, but thats a much colder plug, doesnt seem right.

Don't know about your 112HP, but my 70 HP has always made a faint clicking when I spin the Prop in Neutral. Plugs should be QL77JC4, Champion.

And if you run NGK's, use the 9's. They are the right one's. Better to run a little cooler plug in those Motors.

The factory calibrated the motor for Champions. Thats what I would use.

Good luck!

yes a clicking can be heard if shift is a little out of adjustment, and if you have motor tilt up ,run Champion plugs in the motor,I think the plug # would be a QL82c ,that is an all around plug trolling and WOT,they do have an alternative high speed plug, but for general use that # should work,.030 gap

My 1985 90 HP did the same thing after a rebuild. It seems the factory setting for the shift shaft length is not always used during a rebuild or water pump replacement. Information I received here was to remove the shift cable end at the engine from the lever by removing the bolt and nut, careful with the plastic bushing Make sure the shifter is in neutral and the lower unit is in neutral now adjust the cable length using the adjuster near the front of the engine until the holes align perfectly this shoud take the clicking away. Mine was actually jumping out of gear under power it was so much out of adjustment.
