I took my boat out today and the trim motor malfunctioned. I know the control has had a problem that I ignored so now the problem is worse. It was trimming up but wouldn't go down. Now I am out of the water and nothing is working.
First I need to get it down to flush the motor with fresh water. I see two wires going to the trim motor. One is green and the other is blue. I traced that back to a plug in the cowling. I am guessing that I am dealing with a DC motor and the polarity of the 12 volts across the green and blue wires sets the direction the motor will turn. I can connect a battery to those pins and lower the motor? If it goes up I can reverse the battery leads and go down?

Second. There are two relays that attach to a terminal block near that plus to the trim motor. Those relays ahve gotten very hot and the wire around them look melted.Does anybody know about these relays? The wire to the trim motor looks good. Does anybody have a wiring diagram?

Take some jumper wires and go directly to the trim motor. Reverse them to change direction and see what happens. If the motor is still dead, rap it with a screw driver handle and see what happens. You may have a stuck brush. You can also swap the relays and see what happens.

The plug going to the motor looks good. I jumpered it to the battery and got the motor down so I could flush it. All of the wire around both relays show signs of being hot. One of the relay was burning hot and never stopped till I turned the battery off. I think I may have had a switch stick or something short out in the switch line. I probably fried one or both of the relays. Do we have a good source for them? I have been having trouble with the throttle since I got the boat. I'm hoping I can find a good used one for sale cheap. I really don't want to pay what they are asking for a new one. I should have taken this one apart before I took it out again. I think the spring from the switch that disengages the transmission is grinding around on the inside. I found a schematic. I'll probably just put new wire in next weekend. If somebody has a source for cheap parts please pass it on. I like used and have no problem with Chineese.

Okay, I got another throttle. I haven't put it on yet. I have a schematic. I am looking it over closely. One of the relays had a lot of corrosion. That is where the real trauma seemed to be. The other relay ciscuit looked okay. My problem is that I see the realy fairly cheap all over the internet but I would prefer to change the socket too. I might be able to clean the old one up but the wire has been hot and it looks terrible. I should be able to find a socket with the wires so that I can just screw it to the terminal block. I don't really know what to search for. HELP PLEASE???
