Not a mechanical guy. Attempted to tackle an overhaul/tune up of my '94 25HP Johnson. I noticed the lower unit gear oil was blacker than black, thick, and there was no gasket on the vent plug. Did not see milkiness in oil. Decided to take to lower unit down, followed instructions in Clymer manual. With all bolts and nuts removed, shift rod detached, and in forward, no drop. The back will just barely give but the front will not budge. Thought it might be the thread in front that is held by nut, that that thread is rusted into frame on lower unit and seizing movement. Any thoughts on what I can do. I beat the crap out of it with a rubber mallet, but did not budge or loosen at all. Thanks in advance.
