I test drove a 94 Stratos with a 94 Johnson Fast Strike 150. Motor was quiet (compared to my merc 125) but had a few problems I want to run by you fellas:
First off it started right up, first key turn running very smoothly. Right out of the gate when giving it a little gas it seems to want to instantaneously die -- the owner went and primed the bulb again and said it had to get warmed up (hadn't started it in a few months he said) We got up on plane just fine and it tried to cut out a few times as we were accelorating - he just back the gas down each time and it held on just fine and by the end of our short run it wasn't doing it.
I don't want to buy a boat with problems, but can't help from think this may be minor. He has a an inline fuel filter before the bulb along with a manual shut off valve he put on there because he said if it's open while pulling the boat, it will flood the engine. Anyone every hear of this? I can't help from think its something in the fuel line..? It never died on us, just cut out a few time (instantaneous cutting, not sputtering or anything, just like it stopped working for a split second) and then by the end of our little run didn't do it at all.
Again, the motor was very quiet, quite powerful and seemed to be running great with the exception of those little problems.
Suggestions?
