1994 Kawaski 650 won't start

Bought at Auction-sign said runs fine needs battery - put in new charged battery (battery reads 12.8 volts with meter check) - press starter and only get a click from box - might be starter but any help before I purchase new one?

Make sure the motor will spin freely. take the plugs out and try to turn the drive shaft. I got a ski that was frozen up. did the same thing. got it loose and it runs fine. if you can get to the starter you may want to tap on it a little with a screw driver or something. usually that will get it to work if it's going bad. Open up the electrical box. jumper across the main solenoid terminals. if the motor wont turn over then you either have a rusted motor or a rusted pump/ bearings. some of the pumps rust up because people dont maintain them.
the other thing it could be is sometimes the starter bendix gets rusted up and then gets stuck on the flywheel and wont retract back. it will act jsut liek a seized motor so when you wiggle the motor driveshaft make sure you wiggle it back and forth. I bought 2 skis that the guy thought he blew the motors on but it ended up being jsut a stuck bendix. I rode the skis and then sold them for abotu 4x what I paid for them
