1994 Mercury 40 HP

I just bought a 1994 Tracker for the upcoming fishing season. The boat has sat for 2-3 years as the owner died, and wife didn't know what to do with it. I couldn't get it to stay at idle, as it would die unless I kept choking it. The mechanic told me after he tried to rebuild with carb kit, that it is probably warped and sucking air. He put a rebuilt carb on, and it ran fine. The problem is $600 for it!!! Still in shock. Is there any other way to repair the one on it, or could it be something else. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

try another mechanic, carb. rebuild should take care of it, never heard of carb. warping

You can get a carb price from mercury patrs express, if you have the engine serial number.

branson,New carburetors for your 40 hp 94' mercury run between $150 - $175 depending on the particular P/N of the ones your motor is equipped with.Your mechanic is indeed lean and hungry.
