I have a 1994 Polaris 650 Ski that i am working on. I checked to see if there was a spark, and found non in any of the cylinders. I then started having troubles with the battery. I was having trouble charging the battery when i realized that current is being drawn from the battery at all times. Even when its just sitting. Using a multimeter i measure somewhere between 5 and 6 volts are constantly being drawn from the battery. Any ideas what is causing this to happen ? And could this be why i am not getting spark in any cylinders ? Thanks

umm. you can't draw 5 or 6 volts from the battery. Where are you measuring? You can only draw 12 volts from a 12 volt battery. Amps are the part that will vary.

When i read my Mulitmeter it only shows a charge of 6 volts, and when i unhook the battery from the ski i get a charge of 11-12 volts.

I was told It stopped running and just clicked when trying to start it. Could that mean to stator failed and did not charge the battery ? And if the Stator fails will that cause no spark ? Im not sure where i should go next. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Re: 1994 Polaris 650 Has no spark

Just had the same problem with my 95 SL750. It COULD be in the CDI box, the black box on the battery, or, as in my case it was the stator. To get to the stator, you have to yank the gas tank. Not a huge deal, but I definitely recommend pulling the oil resevoir prior to the gas tank as I tore my fuel pump up getting mine out. Check out the manual, they are very good at telling you how to diagnose the CDI box. Also might want to check the fuse in the CDI box, those are known to blow also. Good luck!

Re: 1994 Polaris 650 Has no spark

Quick update on my project

I suspected the Stator, so i was testing the resistance and this is what i found.

component Wire color Reading what i got

Alternator coil red/pur to yel .6ohms tested .7ohms
trigger coil wht/yel to blk 220 ohms tested 0ohms
pulser coil blue/red to red/wht 90ohms tested 83 ohms
Exciter coil red/wht to green/red 490 ohms tested 4.1 ohms

I have never had a stator fail so i dont know if this look right or not, and i wanted to get some feedback before i bought a new one. I still have no spark. Could this be why ?

Thanks

Check and make sure that there are no rocks in the impeller, the rocks could be jamming it and your engine could not turn over but would just click. I had this problem and thought it was an electrical problem but found out I had 2 rocks jammed in there.
