i purchased a 1994 regal rush for 500.00. it had the new red stator installed new fly wheel and cdi ignition. looks clean as (iuhll). it didn't run and was flooding out and fouling plugs. i searched all over internet and blogs and old men hanging out at the boat repair places. i traced all wireing and everything else. even had all the carbs rebuilt. turns out it ended up the guy i bought boat thought it was carbs and had them rebuilt with (new) floats. no indents for the jets. ended up finding new old stock carb and 2 old floats that were good. anywhoo new carb and everything god now hits around 51 on water with slight chop and i'm happy for the moment. my question long winded is:is there a way to mate up a bigger motor to the jet drive that is in it? since it's a mercury-(force motor) outboard would another mercury -say a 150 fit it? more weight in front and new taller cover on the motor compartment to level it out and give some room.:D

The 90hp jets were geared differently than the 120 hp jets in the drive. A bigger motor on the existing jet wont help you as the motor is probably topping out in rpm anyway if it is running properly. Another thing to keep in mind, the sportjet cranks are splined differenty than a standard Force outboars, so nothing else (even a 90hp outboard powerhead) would drop on.

I put a Solas impeller and smart tabs on my 120 hp sportjet powered Bayliner Jazz, and it turned it into a whole new boat.

Re: 1994 sportjet 90

It gave me a better holeshot, at the expense of a couple mph on the top end. Since I use my boat for watersports, it does not see over 35mph too often anyway, so I did not mind the decrease in top speed. If your jet has a splined drive, you can still find impellers around, if it is the threaded style, you are pretty much SOL unless you get lucky and stumble across one.
