Well I have been an observer of this site for quite some time. Based on the info. I have read I have decided to take on the floor, stringer and MAYBE transom replacement in my boat. 1994 Sunbird Corsair Bowrider. Here is what I have completed to date:

- removed carpet (up to bow)
- removed floor
- started removing foam

As I get further into this job I find another area that requires help. I know the same old story.

Now for the questions. I am hoping you can help with. I am new to all of this.

- how do you ensure that the stringers are perfectly vertical when set in the "peanut butter)?

The transom appears to have had the centre (outdrive area) repaired/replaced at some time in the recent future. It appears that, in the area of the outdrive, the wood is 3 layers of 3/4" ply, with the middle layer extending all the way to the port and starboard sides of the boat. The transom is not 3 layers thick all the way across. There is foam behind the port 1/3 and starboard 1/3 of the transom.

- does this sound right?
- do I have to pull the cap off to replace the transom?
- how to I adhere the plywood to the foam on the port and starboard 1/3 of the transom. (I believe the middle is directly adhered to the outer fibreglass skin)

It is a 4.3L OMC Cobra I/O

Thanks for your help and suggestions in advance.:)

One additional question.

This rebuild started after I realized I had rotten motor mounts.

I need to rebuild these as well.

What is recommended? The original design looked like it had a base of several (5-6) layers of laminated ply with a smaller 2x4 cap. Unfortunately there simply was not much left to them when I started cutting into it.

Thanks again
