1994 Suziki dt 115

I just bought this engine and I need a little help getting completly straight When I first crank engine up it will not idle for a long while and hear it spit back thru the carbs but when I drive it for a while it will idle much better but I can still hear it backfiring but not as bad.This engine has excellent take off power and has great top end speed.I would just like to completly straighten it out.Can any one help me diagnose this slight problem?

Sounds like a lean idle mixture causing the sneezing. You may be able to enrichen the idle air screw by turning it clockwise a 1/4 turn. If that doesn't help you may need to clean/rebuild the carburetors.
