I have a 1994 SX drive with the #984731 2-wire trim sender on it. I'm thinking it doesn't work anymore. I'm wondering if there's an ohm range for it to tell if it's faulty or not. I got ~220 ohms from it. Also, can anyone recommend a place to find a new one. It's looks like it's an obsolete OMC number and no one seems to have stock.

Thanks!

Re: 1994 SX Trim sender ohms

Could you elaborate on the "dead spot" comment? Are you saying I should have a somewhat constant ohmage in that 0-200 range while I move the lever back and forth? If there is no dead spot (anything out of the 0-200 range) can I assume the sender is good? The guage needle is buried in the down position and hasn't moved for a long time. I assume guages rarely the culprit?

Can I assume that is an updated part number for that part?

Thanks so much for your input!

Yes, it would be good.

it happens., To test, You have 4 wires going to the gauge, purple, black, blue, and brown/white stripe.

Remove the brown/white striped wire from the gauge. Then, with the ignition switch in the RUN position, use a jumper wire and touch the terminal you took the wire off of to the black wire terminal.
If the gauge is good, it should peg to over full up. Don't hold the jumper there, just a quick test to see if the gauge moves to max.

Can I assume that is an updated part number for that part?
Happens all the time, and could happen again tomorrow.

Ok, I jumpered the terminals on the trim gauge like you said and I got ZERO needle movement. Bad gauge I assume, right? Is this top link the one I would need? There is also one for OMC. Mine is a 1994 and that was joint venture year correct?

Also, I ohmed out the trim sender and it looked good. It ranged from ~9-202 ohms.

If you have 12 volts on the meters purple wire and a good ground, sounds like a bad gauge to me.
I can't tell you which gauge, no specs on either.
