1995 150 xr-1

95 150 XR-1 on a 2003 1860 Fisher Sport. Added a 9 horse 4 stroke kicker with fuel switch. Had issues last couple seasons with alrms going off, engine shutting down at WOT. Turned out that I had water in fuel (old ethanol). Also found that I had bad spark plug boots (2) that were leaking spark. I replaced all boots, plugs, filters, sucked out all old fuel, etc and since then, motor has ran better and smoother than it ever has at mid to WOT. I find that it runs a little rough at idle, sometimes dies but restarts. Also find that it floods extremely easily after I try to start it after trolling using kicker all day. This weekend flooded so bad that I had to use kicker to get back. Once back home, I pulled the plugs, which were wet, cranked engine and let plugs dry, reinstalled and engine started right up. The plugs are Champion and they are the flat bottom with no exposed electrode. I don't have the spark plug number with me.
I also notice that when I pump the ball at initial start, the ball doesn't seem to get hard or it takes a long time to get it hard. After running for a while, the ball is soft but not collapsed at all.
Any ideas where to start looking for this flooding issue? Could the poor idle be a clue as to why it floods so easily?

You might check your fuel pump diaphragm for leaks. If that checks out, the next step would be to clean and rebuild the carbs. Some of that water and the associated gunk may have clogged the carb passages leading to poor carboration, or inlets, leading to flooding.

XR1 ?..never seen one of those?.. XR6 maybe.. what chris says but ya might as well do carbs and mech. pump.. kits both pump and carbs aren't very expensive.. have an OEM manual for it?

justa brain fart.. do you mean XRI?.. fuel injected? carb?

if efi motor what chris said 'bout mech fuel pump and new bulb.. if that doesn't help then we can get on with some other things..... it starts ta get a little more involved... you need ta run ngk bu8h's in it... early switch box merc's don't like champs...

Thanks Guys- Yes it is injected. I am going to go with the new bulb and rebuild the pump. I appreciate the advice.

The injectors need servicing as they can flood cylinders,cause rough idle and low end performance. I do several of my customers injectors every 2 years
