1995 175 mercury warning beep

i have a 22ft deck boat with a 1995 mercury xri 175 and i was bringing it in the other day the warning beep in the throttle control started. i looked and it was smoking like all the other two strokes and it had a steady stream of water coming out the back so i dont know what it could be so does anybody have any ideas and the motor seemed to be running fine two no skipping or any thing

Was it a steady beep or intermittant? Steady is overheating and intermittant is low oil.

it was actually kind of random it would be steady for a good while but then stop for a second or two and then start up again i thought it was oil at first but the tank is almost full so it would almost have to be the inpeller then wouldnt it

i was also thinknig the t-stat but i dont know where it is on tthis motor any help
