I have a 95 175hp evinrude that I was getting ready for this years fishing. I raised the motor and saw this.

Is this bad enough not to use the boat? How bad is it to replace? What does that bolt bolt into?

Thanks,
Robert

Its one of the upper mount bolts.....there will be one on the portside as well.....they secure the motor to the swivel bracket and transom mount assembly via the steering arm.....hard to tell if the gap is there because of material which has corroded away (probably) or a failed mount.....in either case it will require major work and significant $ to rectify.....if you are able to do the work yourself it may not be so bad.

Very questionable whether you should still use it in its current state.....considering the importance of the components involved and the motors weight/hp.....i probably wouldnt.

Don't use it! Get it repaired first or otherwise your mtr may end up in the drink.

I just did one on a 1995 90 Evenrude. I know they are a bit different, but they are similar also. That looks pretty bad. That area is under stress and you dont want too much weakening of that material.

I had to replace mine because the swivel bracket was bound up, but I found an entire Swiverl with steering arm on Ebay (exact part) for 150.00. Was able to remove everything without removing the powerhead.

Play it safe, its your steering.
