On my 1995 200 Mercury, the oil warning alarm sounds above 4000 RPM. I notice that, on the dash, the voltage is also very high above 4000 RPM. The needle is pegged past 16 volts. There is oil in the main and reserve tanks and the engine is burning oil. The service manual says to check the coil going to the warning module but doesn't the regulator control the amount of voltage going to the coil? I'm trying to decide if, after checking with a voltage meter, I should just replace the voltage regulator or look for something else.
