I think he wants to relieve you of $700. The ECU is an Engine Control Unit (an electronic device). It controls the fuel injection system on the engine. Before spending that money, I'm sure everyone here would want to know what happened with the engine that caused you to take it in for service. With no information whatsoever its anyones guess as to what the problem is. I would be very skeptical about a "siliconed" ECU. That silicone job may last 10 minutes, one day, or 10 years. Depends on how much risk you are willing to take, IF the ECU was the actual cause of the problem.

the boat was running very good one day, then the next it didnt. It would start then go dead, start go dead, would not run,so i put a new fuel filter on it,new plugs, new wires ,still would not stay running.

While I'm not at all familiar with that engine, I would assume there is a high pressure fuel pump on it. You need to check fuel pressure. The fact that it starts but won't stay running says it may be a fuel delivery problem. Don't start throwing parts at the engine. Do the diagnosis with the help of a factory service manual.

Fuel pressure is good. So i went with the used ECU... It runs like a new motor. I hope to get one more good fishing season out of it,then we will see about a almost new rig, lol cant go the 45,000.00$ price tag for a NEW rig like I have. 19'Champion with that 200 mariner EFI
