Volvo doesn't list the output nor is there a test listed. What is your problem that you need to know that number?

Re: 1995 3.0 volvo gs

the reason is i just wanted an easy way to test the coil because it is one of the few things that havent been changed on the motor. The motor was completely rebuilt last year, carb rebuilt , fuel system gone thru. Boat will run like a top in the driveway with no load on the motor. But as soon as its in the water it will not come out of the cleanly and cant get it rev past 3200 rpm. very confusing.

Don't start throwing parts at it in hopes of fixing the problem. Troubleshoot first, fix the problems you find.

List of possible causes of low WOT (Wide Open Throttle) rpm.

In no particular order

Engine Won't Reach Operating RPM. Check

1. Fuel condition. Type and Octane possibly old fuel
2. Propeller pitch or diameter, damaged blades
3. Restricted fuel pickup tube or anti siphon valve Fuel System Test
4. Crankcase oil volume, high oil level can cause aerated oil and lifter collapse
5. Marine growth on hull and outdrive
6. Wrong gear ratio in outdrive
7. Restricted carburetor air intake (clogged flame arrestor)
8. Restricted exhaust system (broken exhaust shutters/flappers) in engine transom shield or drive
9. Poor cylinder compression Compression Test
10. Carburetor defective, or wrong type.
11. Fuel pump pressure and vacuum
12. Boat overloaded, improperly loaded, or improperly trimmed.
13. Engine Overheating
14. Engine timing and ignition system operation
15. Remote control cables and linkage for proper travel to open throttle plates fully.

Re: 1995 3.0 volvo gs

Checked timing ,tried props from 15pitch to 19 pitch and absoluteley no differance, new fuel pump, Brand new motor. last year my last trip out the boat actually worked for a short period of time came out of the hole clean got full revs out of it was running like a dream. but then we went to shore and went back out back to its usuall sluggish self. So i have witnessed the new motor work but i cant figure out what this intermittent problem is that is why i wanted to start looking at maybe a faulty coil , module etc.

Either the SN or the full model number. There should be some more letters after the 3.0GS.

Re: 1995 3.0 volvo gs

Your running and rpm tests out of the water are a waste of time. You could pull 2 of the plug wires off and still get 6000 rpm with no problem, and changing props when you know it used to work is sure not the way to go. Props don't change size sitting in storage.
You mentioned you rebuilt the engine. Do a compression test. Wouldn't surprise me to find you have valves adjusted too tight and no or low compression on one or more cylinders.

hi don i got some numbers for you type 30GSPHUB serial#4110120596 prod#3868182. I will check the compression but i bought the boat with a motor issue and ended up rebuilding it so ive only seen the boat work once as i earlier wrote that was the only reason for me trying different props as someone had suggested earlier on this forum. i did have the valves adjusted by a proper volvo tech . Thanks for all youre help

Ok, you have an HU model engine. If you Click Here, you can download the manuals for your engine.
Also go down near the bottom of the link and read the part about timing the EST distributors. The manual is wrong and there was a service bulletin on it.

I would also be checking the gear ratio in the outdrive. If it was changed to a V8 ratio, it would sure kill of the rpm. You can check the tag on the outdrive and see what the SN or the spec. number is, and I can see what the ratio is supposed to be for that drive.
