Hey all, New member here. I have 1995 Mercury LX 4.3 with 4 barrel Carb, mechanical choke. During the first attempt at hole shot the motor will bog. I will have to back off to neutral for a few seconds... then I can retry hole shot again with no issues. This happens each and every time the boat sits for a while while on the water. Last time it happened, I didn't back off as long as I normally do and the motor sputtered like it was off timed. There was a gas odor at that time of the sputter. I shut it down and tried to re-fire the motor but it wasn't turning over. I let it sit for about an hour and tried again. This time it fired up and did the bog...then I waited the few seconds and did the start up again and limped it into the dock.
I asked the local shop for advice and they wanted to redo the plugs, cap and rotor. Other place said rebuild the carb and replace the fuel water separator and the fuel pump. Has anyone else experienced this? I have checked around the forums trying to see my exact description. Any thoughts?
