My oil pressure gauge is showing higher than normal, (I think) oil pressure. I just changed the oil, filter and sending unit and at cold idle gauge is showing around 56lbs. I used 25W-40 marine oil and a Napa Gold marine filter. I haven't been out on the water yet but I have searched and seen posts involving spun bearings or pump bypass valves but have no way to check those without pulling the engine. The real question is if it is this high, is it going to be a problem? I have not put a mechanical gauge on it yet but in the process of removing the old sending unit, the brass fitting broke off where it mounts so I replaced the sending unit and brass fittings they mount to. Boat seems to be running fine and doesn;t make any abnormal sounds. The high pressure did not change as a result of the oil change. I thought perhaps the old filter could have caused the high reading so changed the oil and filter.
