My oil pressure gauge is showing higher than normal, (I think) oil pressure. I just changed the oil, filter and sending unit and at cold idle gauge is showing around 56lbs. I used 25W-40 marine oil and a Napa Gold marine filter. I haven't been out on the water yet but I have searched and seen posts involving spun bearings or pump bypass valves but have no way to check those without pulling the engine. The real question is if it is this high, is it going to be a problem? I have not put a mechanical gauge on it yet but in the process of removing the old sending unit, the brass fitting broke off where it mounts so I replaced the sending unit and brass fittings they mount to. Boat seems to be running fine and doesn;t make any abnormal sounds. The high pressure did not change as a result of the oil change. I thought perhaps the old filter could have caused the high reading so changed the oil and filter.
Engine Serial is 0F588532 in a 1995 Searay 180. About 210 hours on the boat.

nothing wrong with 56psi at idle. common with cold 25W-40 oil and low hours on the motor.

High oil pressure at idle is well over 70psi. I run high pressure/high volume pumps in my motors and see much higher pressure than you are seeing.

+1 on what Scott said. What is the OP after the motor warms up?

If I remember correctly, last time out at 2000 or so rpms, op was around 70-75, warm idle was about 48-50 based on the big gap between 40 and 60 on the gauge.

Your oil pressure is good, nothing to worry about, Mike.

The higher reading than in the past could just be difference in the new sender as well.
