1995 40 HP issue

I have a 1995 40 HP 2 cycle on my 24 ft pontoon. The other day I was out with the wife and we came upon some underwater grass. We got out of it as soon as we could but not soon enough for the grass started to cover up the water intakes and stopped water from coming out of the water tube (pee hole). The warning buzzer went off and it took about 30 sec or so tyo get to a safe location to shut the motor down (we were nearing a damn). We shut it down, pulled the grass off and then restarted the motor. The warning buzzer sounded for about a second and then shut off. and water started to flow out the tube again. The motor ran nice at a little over idle but as I tied to rev it up higher the motor gave me a loud rumble so I backed her back down. She gave me enough power to get back in but I wanted to see what you guys thought before I started her up again.

Look for something wrapped around the propshaft.

pull the prop. and investigate.

Thank you gentleman for the thoughts. That is what I was thinking was the issue as well. I am going to pull the prop and see what I can see tonight. With any luck I can pull the prop, remove some grass, lube the shaft, put the prop on and be in the water tommorrow morning. Now that I said that with my luck I will find all kinds of problems.

You gotta make sure you are in clear water and the water you are heading into is clear before you start checking out the hotties in bikini's !!!!!

Along with pulling the prop, run her on the muffs if you can to make sure you are all clear on the inside because you never know what you pick up when you run thru the grass.

Well guys I appreciate it alot. I cleaned her up and put new grease in place last night. The kids and I went out this morning and she ran like a champ. Thanks for the help and let me know if I can ever do something for you.
